Stagecoach is an amazing vineyard for its dramatic landscape, its soil, exposure and sense of place. Combined with the exceptional farming practices I have witnessed over the last six harvests, it is a delight to work with fruit that possesses such concentration and intensity of flavors as early as fermentation. The Stagecoach team is focused on quality, they are accommodating and are extremely professional. I consider it a rare privilege to work with a property that has such symbiosis of people and place.

I’ve been making wine from the amazing fruit of Stagecoach Vineyards for 16 vintages from many different varieties spanning the entire ranch. This place is so special, so beautiful, so complex, if I had to sum it up in one word it I choose ‘Mystical’. The diversity of soil and exposures, the consistency in quality, the altitude, the sheer wonder of the grand views, the aspects and meso-climates all contribute to the sense of The Mystic that one must certainly feel while walking through the vineyard tasting the fruit. I truly feel blessed to be a part of this special place in the history, the present, and the future of one of Napa Valley’s highest caliber of vineyards. Coupled with the dynamite team that Dr. Jan Krupp has assembled and their esteem attention to detail, Stagecoach Vineyard will always have a major impact on contributing to some of the world’s most renowned wines.

Stagecoach is so site-specific. It’s the air, the wind, the rain, the sun and so many other factors of Mother Nature, mixed in with the rocky soils and the rolling hillsides that combine to make terroir. This vineyard has a definite sense of place and I feel it is really interpreted in the wine.
Jeff Cohn
As for the team at Stagecoach, they’re some of the nicest folks – open-minded and ready to please. They always understand what I want to achieve and work with me to achieve it. New ideas are always taken into consideration, and they have the attitude that experimentation is the key to greatness.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jan Krupp and the Stagecoach team since 2003. The combination of unique terroir and dedication to take premium winegrowing to the extreme yields incredible results in the bottle. The vineyard has a dizzying array of soils, exposures, elevations, varieties, clones, and rootstocks. The wines always bring a unique interpretation of the vintage fantastic for blending or vineyard-designated wines. Common to all wines from Stagecoach is the intensity – undoubtedly from site and team.

What makes Stagecoach Vineyard different and great is the unique soil, elevation and micro-climate. It produces fruit with intensity, acidity, elegance, and balance not found in most parts of Napa Valley.

The team at Stagecoach is always receptive to our farming needs. They understand the quality we’re looking for and help us achieve our goals as winemakers. Without them, it would be impossible to create great wines. Jan Krupp is a delightful partner to have on our team. This vineyard is one of the cornerstones of our success.

There are several reasons I buy Stagecoach fruit for many of my clients. First, the terroir: It is the source of all the great Oakville wines. Backus, Dalle Valle, and Screaming Eagle all call Stagecoach Mother.
Aaron Pott
Second, the altitude: We know it makes a difference for sunlight and frost; it is cooler during the day and warmer at night. Warmer nights mean that the fruit continues to mature without increasing the sugar levels. Riper tannins, lower alcohol.
Finally, Stagecoach is great people making wines as wild as the land and as strong as the rock.

In an era of globalization that includes wine, nothing is worth more than a site that screams with its own DNA. Stagecoach has a unique personality; the altitude, the terroir and the transverse valleys makes it very easy to taste and recognize. Stagecoach fruit is the perfect balance between the strength of a man, the beauty of a woman, and the experience of the wise.

I’ve been buying Stagecoach fruit for about ten years. Consistency is one of its strongest selling points – it’s going to perform well year in and year out. That’s very important in a high-end wine program – you can’t build a program on a vineyard that gets it right only every two to three years.
Phillip Corallo-Titus
Jan is one of the most competent farmers in the valley. The way he grows the grapes, he stresses them enough to keep the berries small and the flavor profile high, but not so much to get rustic, dry tannins from too much stress. He walks that line really well.
The team at Stagecoach is really professional, well funded, and they have every possible tool at their command. The crew is finely oiled, well trained, and very accomplished. Every time we ask them to look at something, it’s quick to be delivered. They’re very aware of the quality of service, not just the product. It’s rare we ask for something, even on short notice, that Jan can’t get it done. They’re so organized up there!

The Stagecoach team is one of the best I have experienced. They’re knowledgeable in cutting-edge viticulture, and their willingness to try new techniques continues to provide improvements. The team provides crop thinning, controlled irrigation, and vine health necessary to encourage ripeness in such a marginally cool site. They react to the desires and needs of each individual winemaker and they have nerves of steel when it comes to waiting for ripeness as clouds arrive in mid-October! I consider this vineyard to be a key supplier to Caymus Cabernet.

Stagecoach Vineyard gets it right year-in and year-out, consistently and without fail. Winegrowing in such difficult, rocky terrain such as you find there requires the utmost in vineyard block attention and detail. The mosaic of Stagecoach is astounding, and both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah I source from this world class vineyard are some of, if not absolutely, my favorite picks on an annual basis. Wineries who source from Stagecoach may certainly consider themselves very fortunate and aligned with one of Napa Valley’s premier growers. I give many praises to Jan Krupp, Gabrielle Shaffer and each and of their talented staff and consultants for upholding such a high level of vine quality and client attention. I look very forward to a long and flourishing relationship.

I have been purchasing several varieties of grapes from Stagecoach Vineyard since 2011. The volcanic rocky soils, high elevation, southwest exposure, and immaculate farming all contribute to the quality that is typical of Stagecoach fruit. Jan and his team meet with me in the vineyard, and are willing to try different farming practices to achieve my specific ripening goals. We have a true partnership, with the shared goal of growing the best grapes and making the most interesting wine.
